Hector Chikoore is a climatologist and full professor at the University of Limpopo (South Africa). He holds a PhD in Synoptic Climatology and has trained at prestigious institutions including the Bureau of Meteorology (Australia), NCAR (USA), and JAMSTEC (Japan). His research focuses on the dynamics of weather systems and weather and climate extremes, including meteorological drought, flood risk, heat waves, extreme low temperatures, and forest fire risk. He also evaluates the performance of numerical models in forecasting extreme weather and projects future climate in southern Africa under low and high mitigation scenarios. Previously, Hector served as a meteorologist in Zimbabwe and led the country’s forecasters in the WMO Severe Weather Forecasting Demonstration Project (SWFDP). He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and serves on the Council of the South African Society for Atmospheric Sciences.
