Andrea is an Associate Professor at the Climate Change Research Centre, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. She is also affiliated with the ARC Centres of Excellence for Climate Extremes and the 21st Century Weather, and the National Environment Science Programme Climate Systems Hub. Andrea’s expertise is in climate variability. She investigates the mechanisms by which the oceans affect climate via air-sea interactions and atmospheric teleconnections. Her work looks at the impact of global sea surface temperature variability on regional precipitation. She is particularly interested in the mechanisms of the different types of El Niño Southern Oscillation and how these influence atmospheric circulation and interact with other oceanic basins. Andrea was awarded the Australian Academy of Science Dorothy Hill Award in 2016 for her contribution to the climate science field.
